Description medications: betaxolol (Betaxolol)

Betaxolol (Betaxolol).

1- [para- [2- (cyclopropylmethoxy) ethyl] phenoxy] -3- [isopropylamino] -2-propanol.

Synonyms: Betoptik, Lokren, Betoptic, Betoptima, Betoxolol, Kerione , Locren.

The white crystalline powder. Soluble in water.

Cardioselective β1-blocker prolonged action. Has weak membrane stabilizing action. On lipid metabolism is not affected.

When ingestion rapidly and almost completely absorbed, bioavailability of 80-90%, C max - 3-4 h, T ½ - 15-20 hours; poorly crosses the histogram and hematic barriers; predominantly excreted by the kidneys in the form of metabolites.

Is used as an antihypertensive and antianginal agent inside, and to reduce intraocular pressure in glaucoma eye drop (cm. Timolol).

With arterial hypertension and angina appointed interior, starting with 0.02 g (20 mg), 1 per day; if necessary increase the daily dose over 7-14 days 0.04 g (40 mg).

The antihypertensive effect develops within 2-3 hours after ingestion, reaches a maximum after 3-4 hours and lasts 12-24 hours.

In glaucoma instilled drop of 0.25 to 1% or 0.5% solution, 2 times a day.

Possible side effects and contraindications are the same as those of other β-blockers (see. Atenolol, timolol).

Antagonists of calcium ions, amiodarone, hinidinopodobnyh drugs increase the risk of adverse events associated with the cardiovascular system; NSAIDs, steroids, antacids and enveloping weaken the antihypertensive effect of betaxolol.

Product: tablets of 0.01 and 0.02 g (10 and 20 mg) (N. 14, 28); 0.25% ophthalmic suspension in bottles of 5 and 10 ml 0.5% solution (eye drops) in vials-droppers of 5 ml.
