Medication Description: Terazosin (Terazosin)
1- (4-Amino-6,7-dimethoxy-2-quinazolinyl) -4- (tetrahydro-2-furoyl) piperazine hydrochloride.
Synonyms: Kornam, Setegis, Haitrin, Cornam, Hytrin, Setegis.
White crystalline powder. Well soluble in water.
The chemical structure is very close to prazosin, differs only in the replacement of the furan cycle with the tetrahydrofuran cycle.
Long blocks postsynaptic A1-adrenergic receptors of the vessels, prostate gland and bladder.
Quickly and completely absorbed in the digestive tract, bioavailability exceeds 90%, Cmax is 1 h, T1 / 2 - 12 h, and therefore the drug is prescribed 1 time per day; undergoes biotransformation in the liver, excreted mainly with feces.
Used for the treatment of arterial hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia (see Prazosin).
When arterial hypertension is prescribed starting from 0.001 g (1 mg) orally at night (in a supine position), then the dose is gradually increased to 0.005-0.01 g (5-10 mg) per day, monitoring efficacy and tolerability.
When hypertrophy of the prostate gland is prescribed at the beginning also in a dose of 0.001 g (1 mg) at night, then 0.002-0.01 g (2-10 mg) per day.
Possible side effects and precautions are the same as with prazosin.
Product form: tablets of 0.001; 0.002; 0.005 and 0.01 g (1; 2; 5; and 10 mg) (N. 10, 20, 28).
