Medication Description: Triazolam
TRIAZOLOLAM (Triazolam). 8-Chloro-6- (ortho-chlorophenyl) -1-methyl-1H-S-triazolo- [4, 3a] [1, 4] benzodiazepine.
Synonyms: Somneton, Halcion, Clorazolam, Halcion, Insomnium, Novidorm, Nuctan, Somneton, Songar, etc.
The structure of triazoles is similar to alprazolam (see), differs from it only by the presence of a C 1 atom with the phenyl nucleus in position 6. By the action, these drugs differ from each other. Triazolam has a pronounced hypnotic effect and in this regard is closer to nitrazepam, while the spectrum of action of alprazolam is closer to tranquilizers.
Compared with nitrazepam triazolam acts in smaller doses. Its effective sleeping dose is 0.25 - 0.5 mg. It is rapidly absorbed when taken orally and relatively quickly excreted from the body. The elimination half-life makes 1, 5 - 3 h. Acts triazolam less long, than to nitrazepam. Daytime sleepiness and other side effects are less pronounced than when taking nitrazepam, but when using triazolam, you must follow the same precautions as when using nitrazepam. It should be borne in mind that triazolam is a relatively new drug, and therefore its uncontrolled use should not be allowed.
Product form: tablets of 0.25 mg (blue) and 0.5 mg (white).
Storage: List B.
Abroad, some other benzodiazepine derivatives, similar in structure to the benzodiazepine tranquilizers, are also used as hypnotic drugs.
Flurazepam (Flurazepam). Synonyms: Benozil, Dalmador, Dalmane, Dormodor, Enoctan, Fludan, Fluzepam, Insumin, Lunipax, Noctosom, Novoflupam, Valdorm, etc.
Lorazepam (Lorazepam). Synonyms: Almazin, Amparax, Ansilor, Аtivan, Сalmogenol, Duralozam, Larotensil, Lorsedal, Меdral, Sedatival, Tolid, Tranquipan, etc.
Temazepam (Temazepam). Synonyms: Cerepax, Lenal, Levanxol, Methyloxazepam, Normiun, Rémastan, Temazepax, Temazin, Tonirem, etc.
These drugs are similar in structure and action to nitrazepam (in the flurazepam molecule contains a fluorine atom). They differ in the rate of absorption, duration of action, effective doses.
Flurazepam is absorbed quickly, but slowly excreted; the elimination half-life (together with the active metabolite) is 50-100 hours. The effective hypnotic dose is 15-30 mg.
Lorazepam is absorbed more slowly, the half-life is 10 to 20 hours; dose of 2-4 mg.
Temazepam is absorbed slowly, the half-life is 10 to 17 hours; Dose 15 to 30 mg.
