Description of the medicine: Cerivastatin (Cerivastatin)
The sodium salt of [4- (para-fluorophenyl) -2,6-diisopropyl-5- (methoxymethyl) -3-pyridyl] -3,5-dioxo-S-heptenoate.
Synonyms: Lipobay, Baycol, Lipobay.
A synthetic lipid-lowering drug of the statin group.
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor.
The drug was proposed in the mid-1990s. as a lipid-lowering agent. It effectively lowers LDL cholesterol and raises HDL cholesterol. Effective in small doses (0.1-0.3 mg per day). However, in connection with the side effects identified during its use, in the late 1990s. cerivastatin (lipobuy) production was discontinued.
