Description of the medicine: Sodium salicylate (Natrii salicylas)

NATURIUM SALICYLATE (Natrii salicylas).

Sodium salt of ortho-hydroxybenzoic acid.

Synonyms: Natrium salicylicum, Enterosal, Enterosalyl, Glutosalyl, Nadisal, Saliglutin, Salicine, Salitin, Sodium salicylate, and others.

White crystalline powder or small scales without a smell, sweetish-salty taste. Very easily soluble in water (1: 1), soluble in alcohol (1: 6). Solutions (pH 6, 0 - 7, 0) are sterilized at + 100 ° C for 30 minutes.

Has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effect.

As an analgesic and antipyretic agent, sodium salicylate is prescribed to adults inside (after eating) 0.5-1 g per reception; Children under the age of 1 year - 0.1-0.15 g, up to 2 years - 0.2 g, 3 - 4 years - 0.25 g, 5 - 6 years - 0.3 g, 7 - 9 years - 0,4 g, 10 - 14 years - 0,5 g 2 - 3 times a day.

With acute rheumatism, rheumatic endocarditis and myocarditis, the drug is used in the early days in large doses: adults are prescribed 6-10 g per day, then, with improvement, 4 g per day.

More often for oral administration, acetylsalicylic acid is prescribed. Sometimes (especially with rheumatic endocarditis) sodium salicylate is administered intravenously for 5-10 ml of 10% solution 1-2 times a day. Sometimes, 3 to 5 to 10 ml of a 40% solution of hexamethylenetetramine are simultaneously administered. Intravenous should be administered slowly. Children with acute attacks of rheumatism appoint 0.5 g for each year of life per day, but not more than the total daily dose of 6 g. Treatment with salicylates of rheumatic fever for a long duration of the course for adults reaches 300-350.

When sodium salicylate is used, the same side effects can be observed, as with the use of acetylsalicylic acid.
