ORTHOFEN (Ortophenum).

Sodium salt of 2 - [(2, 6-dichlorophenyl) amino] phenylacetic acid.

Synonyms: Voltaren, Diclofenac-sodium, Revodin, Feloran, Aflamin, Batafil, Delimon, Diclofenac-natrium, Diclofenac sodium, Diclogesic, Diclomax, Diclonak, Dicloreum, Diklofenak, Diralon, Feloran, Inflanac, Linobol, Prophenatin, Rewodina, Sofarin, Sorelmon , Valetan, Veral, Voltaren, Voltarol, Vonafec, Votaxil, Votrex, Youfenac and others.

Crystalline powder of white color. The drug has properties characteristic of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: it has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. By the strength of the anti-inflammatory and analgesic action it surpasses acetylsalicylic acid, butadione and ibuprofen. By efficiency with rheumatism and illness, Bechterew is not inferior to prednisolone and indomethacin.

When administered orally, the drug is absorbed well. With the course treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis intensively penetrates into the joint cavity.

Orthophene is used for acute rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew's disease), arthrosis, spondyloarthrosis.

Assign inside adults in the form of tablets: 0,025 - 0,05 g 2 - 3 times a day (sometimes up to 4 - 6 times a day). When the therapeutic effect is achieved, give 0.025 g 3 times a day. The course of treatment usually lasts 5-6 weeks. Tablets are swallowed without chewing, during meals or immediately after meals.

Children are prescribed in tablets of 0.015 g.

Also used as intramuscular injections of 75 mg (1 ampoule) 1 - 2 times a day. The effect comes faster and more pronounced. Usually injected into the muscles for 2 to 5 days (up to 2 weeks), then switch to taking the tablets inside.

The drug is usually well tolerated and rarely causes side effects. Possible, however (especially at the beginning of treatment), pain in the epigastric region, eructation, vomiting, diarrhea, as well as headaches and mild dizziness. These phenomena usually pass by themselves. In some cases, skin allergic reactions are possible.

The drug is contraindicated in cases of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer and in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

Caution is necessary when prescribing the drug to people suffering from gastrointestinal diseases, liver and kidney damage.

With prolonged use of the drug, it is necessary to monitor the blood picture.

It is not recommended to prescribe orthophene together with acetylsalicylic acid, as this reduces the concentration of orthophene in the blood plasma.

Forms of release: tablets of 0.025 g (25 mg) of the drug for adults and 0.015 g (15 mg) for children, coated with an orange color, soluble in the intestine; 2, 5% solution in ampoules of 3 ml (75 mg in an ampoule) in a package of 5 pieces.

Abroad, diclofenac-sodium with prolonged action of voltaren retard 100 (Voltaren retard 100), containing in one tablet 100 mg of diclofenac sodium (in a package of 20 tablets) is produced. The effect of such a pill continues for a day. The drug is suitable for use in the treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory diseases.
