Medication Description: Ortofen (Ortophenum)
Sodium salt of 2 - [(2, 6-dichlorophenyl) - amino] -phenylacetic acid.
Synonyms: Voltaren, Diclofenac-sodium, Revodin, Feloran, Aflamin, Batafil, Delimon, Diclofenac-natrium, Diclofenac sodium, Diclogesic, Diclomax, Diclofenak, Dicloreum, Diklofenac, Diclofenac-natrium , Valetan, Veral, Voltaren, Voltarol, Vonafec, Votaxil, Votrex, Youfenac, etc.
White crystalline powder. The drug has properties characteristic of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: it has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. The strength of anti-inflammatory and analgesic action is superior to acetylsalicylic acid, butadione and ibuprofen. In terms of effectiveness in rheumatism and ankylosing spondylitis is not inferior to prednisone and indomethacin.
When ingested the drug is well absorbed. In the course of treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis intensively penetrates into the cavities of the joints.
Ortofen is used for acute rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (ankylosing spondylitis), arthrosis, spondylarthrosis.
Assign inside adults in the form of tablets: at 0.025 - 0.05 g 2 - 3 times a day (sometimes up to 4 - 6 times a day). Upon reaching the therapeutic effect give 0.025 g 3 times a day. The course of treatment usually lasts 5 to 6 weeks. The tablets are swallowed, without chewing, during a meal or immediately after a meal.
Children should be prescribed tablets of 0.015 g.
Also used in the form of intramuscular injections of 75 mg (1 ampoule) 1-2 times a day. The effect comes faster and more pronounced. Usually injected into the muscles within 2 to 5 days (up to 2 weeks), then move to taking the pills inside.
The drug is usually well tolerated and rarely causes side effects. There are, however, (especially at the beginning of treatment), epigastric pain, belching, vomiting, diarrhea, as well as headaches and slight dizziness. These phenomena usually go away on their own. In some cases, skin allergies are possible.
The drug is contraindicated in gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer and in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
Caution is needed in the appointment of the drug to persons suffering from gastrointestinal diseases, liver and kidney damage.
With prolonged use of the drug is necessary to monitor the blood picture.
It is not recommended to prescribe ortofen together with acetylsalicylic acid, as this decreases the concentration of ortofen in the blood plasma.
Method of production: tablets of 0.025 g (25 mg) of the drug for adults and of 0.015 g (15 mg) for children, coated with orange color, soluble in the intestine; 2, 5% solution in ampoules of 3 ml (75 mg in the ampoule) in a package of 5 pieces.
Storage: List B, protected from light.
Diclofenac-sodium of prolonged action of voltaren retard 100 (Voltaren retard 100), containing 100 mg of diclofenac-sodium (in a package of 20 tablets) per 1 tablet, is produced abroad. The effect of such a pill continues throughout the day. The drug is suitable for use in the treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory diseases.
