Pyrilene is a tertiary amine. Compared with quaternary ammonium compounds, pyrilene is better absorbed when taken orally and has a rapid ganglion blocking and hypotensive effect with this method of application. Pyrilene penetrates the blood-brain barrier and has a blocking effect on central n-cholinergic receptors.

Pyrilene is applied with spasms of peripheral vessels, peptic ulcer of stomach and duodenum, toxicosis of pregnant women. In hypertensive disease, pyrilene can be used in combination with other antihypertensive agents (reserpine, dichlorothiazide, etc.).

Treatment with pyrilene is carried out by courses for 2 - 4 - 6 weeks with breaks between courses 2 - 3 weeks. After the drug is discontinued, blood pressure may gradually increase again.

With hypertension associated with late toxicosis of pregnant women, a single dose is usually 0.01 g (2 tablets).

There are data on the successful use of pyrilene for preoperative preparation in patients with pulmonary hypertension and chronic pulmonary heart disease.

Higher doses for adults inside: single 0.01 g, daily 0.03 g:

Possible side effects are the same as when using other ganglion blockers.

When applying pyrilene, constipation and abdominal distention are relatively common, and therefore it is recommended to take laxatives (phenolphthalein, magnesium sulfate or others) concomitantly and observe a proper diet.
