Description of the medicine: Naphthyzine (Naphthyzinum)
Naphthyzinum. 2- (a-Naphthylmethyl) -imidazoline nitrate.
Nitrate (or the corresponding hydrochloride) is produced abroad under the names: Sanorin, Venil, Imidin, Naphazolini nitras, Naphazoline nitrat, Privin, Rhinazin, Sanorin and others.
White or white with a yellowish tinge of crystalline powder. It is soluble in water, soluble in alcohol.
According to the chemical structure, naphthyzine differs from norepinephrine, mezaton, fetanol, 'but, like these compounds, it has a-adrenomimetic effect. In comparison with norepinephrine and mezaton it causes a longer contraction of peripheral vessels. Increases blood pressure, dilates the pupil.
In connection with the vasoconstrictive properties of naphthyzine when applied to mucous membranes has anti-inflammatory (anti-edema) effect. When rhinitis facilitates nasal breathing, reducing the flow of blood to the venous sinuses.
Applied mainly in acute rhinitis, as well as to facilitate rhinoscopy, with inflammation of the maxillary cavities, to stop nasal bleeding, with allergic conjunctivitis. It can also be used to slow the absorption of local anesthetics.
In rhinitis, 1 - 2 drops of 0.05-0.1% solution or 0.1% emulsion 2 to 3 times a day are administered to adults. Children from 1 year are prescribed 1 to 2 drops of 0.05% or 0.025% solution. Infants due to the possibility of an overdose of naphthyzine is not recommended. When nosebleeds are used tampons, moistened with 0.05% solution. With conjunctivitis, 0.05% solution is injected into the conjunctival sac 1 - 2 drops.
It is not recommended to use naftizine, as well as other vasoconstrictor drugs, for chronic rhinitis. If, however, naphthyzine is used for a long time, it should be borne in mind that the vasoconstrictor effect gradually decreases (the phenomenon of tachyphylaxis), it is recommended therefore to take a break for several days after 5 to 7 days of use.
To extend the action of local anesthetics used for surface anesthesia, add 2 to 4 drops of 0.1% aqueous solution of naphthysine to 1 ml of anesthetic solution.
Naphthyzine is contraindicated in hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis.
Form release: 0.05% and O.1% solutions in bottles of 10 ml.
Storage: List B. In the dark place.
Abroad, the drug "Sanorinum" (Sanorinum) * - a white emulsion containing 0.1% naphthyzine (naphazoline) is produced.
The emulsion has a longer vasoconstrictive effect than the aqueous solution. With a single instillation in the nose effect (reducing edema of the nasal mucosa) lasts about 2 hours.
Applied with rhinitis (mainly acute), hay fever, conjunctivitis, and also to facilitate rhinoscopy. Bury in each nasal passage of 1 - 2 drops 2 - 3 times a day.
Precautions and contraindications are the same as for naphthyzine.
Product: in bottles of 10 ml.
Storage: at a temperature of + 10 to + 25 ° C in a dark place (protect from freezing).
