METOPROLOL (Metoprolol) *.
(#) - 1- (Isopropylamino) -3- [para- (methoxyethyl) phenoxy] -2-propanol.
Synonyms: Betalok, Bloksan, Specicore, Beloc, Betaloc, Blocksan, Lopressor, Veobloc, Opresol, Selopral, Specior, etc.
Available in the form of bitartrate.
Is selective (cardio selective) b 1 -blocker. Internal sympathomimetic activity does not possess.
By action close to atenolol (see).
When ingested quickly absorbed. The plasma elimination half-life is 3–5 hours, but the effect on blood pressure and heart rate is observed (after oral administration 100 mg once) for 12 hours. It is excreted through the kidneys as metabolites.
Applied with hypertension, angina pectoris, arrhythmias (supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, ventricular extrasystoles), with hyperthyroidism, for the prevention of recurrent myocardial infarction.
Apply inside and intravenously.
Inside prescribed in a dose of 100 - 200 mg per day in 2 - 3 doses. If necessary, increase the dose, and in case of hypertensive disease, in the case of insufficient effectiveness, other antihypertensive agents are additionally prescribed.
Intravenous (for urgent reasons) is administered, starting with 5 mg (at a rate of 1-2 mg per minute); if necessary, re-administered at intervals of 5 minutes to a total dose of 10-15 mg. Maintenance therapy is carried out by the appointment of the drug inside a dose of 200 mg per day.
Possible side effects, precautions and contraindications are the same as those of other b-blockers. Intravenous metoprolol should not be administered if systolic blood pressure is less than 110 mm Hg. Art. In patients with bronchospastic phenomena, simultaneous administration of b - adrenostimulating drugs is recommended.
Method of production: tablets of 50 and 100 mg in a package of 30; 100 and 200 pieces; 1% solution in ampoules of 5 ml per pack of 10 ampoules. Storage: List B. At a temperature not higher than + 25 'C.
