BISMUTA NITRATE BASIC (Bismuthi subnitras).
A mixture of BiNO3 (OH), BiONO and BiOOH.
Synonyms: Bismuthum nitricum basicum, Bismuthum subnitricum, Magisterium bismuthi.
White amorphous or crystalline powder. Practically insoluble in water and alcohol, easily soluble in hydrochloric acid.
It has a local astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.
Topically applied in the form of ointments and powders (5 - 10%) for inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes (dermatitis, ulcers, erosion, eczema).
Inside, they are taken as an astringent and antacid for gastrointestinal diseases (peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, enteritis, colitis).
Assign inside adults 0.25-0.5 g, children 0.1-0.3-0.5 g per reception 3-4 times a day (15-30 minutes before meals).
Bismuth nitrate basic is one of the main components of combined antacid preparations. It is part of the tablets "Vicalin", "Vicair", the drug "Almagel" and others, widely used for peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum. It is used for extemporaneous preparation of powders in combination with anticholinergic, antispasmodic drugs, as well as in dermatological practice.
