Medication description: Bismuth nitrate basic (Bismuthi subnitras)
BISMUTH NITRATE BASIC (Bismuthi subnitras).
A mixture of BiNO3 (OH), BiONO and BiOOH.
Synonyms: Bismuthum nitricum basicum, Bismuthum subnitricum, Magisterium bismuthi.
White amorphous or crystalline powder. Practically insoluble in water and alcohol, easily soluble in hydrochloric acid.
It has a local astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.
Externally used in the form of ointments and powders (5 - 10%) for inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes (dermatitis, ulcers, erosion, eczema).
Inside take as a binder and antacid with gastrointestinal diseases (peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer, enteritis, colitis).
Assign inside adults for 0.25 - 0.5 g, for children - 0.1 - 0.3 - 0.5 g per reception 3-4 times a day (15 to 30 minutes before meals).
Bismuth nitrate basic is one of the main components of the combined antacid preparations. It is part of the tablets "Vikalin", "Vikair", the drug "Almagel" and others, widely used in gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer. Used for thermal preparation of powders in combination with anticholinergic, antispasmodic agents, as well as in dermatological practice.
Forms of release: powder and 10% ointment.
Storage: in a well-closed container, protected from light.
