ALMAGEL (Almagel).

One of the first (1960s) combined antacid preparations, the main component of which is aluminum hydroxide (aldehydrate). Subsequently, a number of algeldratsoderzhashchih antatsidnyh drugs, produced in various dosage forms.

Almagel is a gel (suspension), for each 5 ml of which there are 0.3 g of aluminum hydroxide and 0.1 g of magnesium oxide with the addition of D-sorbitol.

Viscous liquid of white color, sweet, slightly astringent taste.

Applied with peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, acute and chronic hyperacid gastritis, reflux-esophagitis and other gastrointestinal diseases, which show a decrease in the acidity and proteolytic activity of gastric juice.

The action of the drug is associated with its antacid, adsorbing, enveloping and gastroprotective properties. The presence of D-sorbitol contributes to increased bile secretion and a laxative effect. The dosage form (gel) creates conditions for uniform distribution over the gastric mucosa and a longer lasting effect.

Almagel-A contains, in every 5 ml of gel, 0.1 g of anesthesin. Applied in the event that the above diseases are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, soreness.

Almagel and Almagel-A are prescribed inside: adults usually 1-2 teaspoonfuls (dosage) spoons 4 times a day (morning, afternoon and evening 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime); Children under 10 years of age - ⅓ adult doses, 10-15 years - ≥ adult doses. To avoid dilution of the drug, do not use liquid in the first half hour after taking it. It is advisable to lie down after several hours of taking the Almagel and turn over from side to side (every 1-2 minutes) (to improve its distribution along the gastric mucosa). Course of treatment 3-4 weeks.

Almagel is well tolerated. In some cases, constipation, which occurs when the dosage is reduced, is possible. Large doses sometimes cause a state of mild drowsiness. With prolonged use of the drug should not take food rich in phosphorus.

Almagel is contraindicated in hypophosphatemia, kidney failure, pregnancy.

Form release: suspension for oral administration in vials of 170 and 200 ml.

Storage: in a cool place; Freezing is not allowed.
