Medication Description: Almagel (Almagel)
One of the first (1960s) combined antacid preparations, the main component of which is aluminum hydroxide (algedrate). In the future, a number of algeldrata-containing antacid drugs, produced in various dosage forms.
Almagel is a gel (suspension), for every 5 ml of which there are 0.3 g of aluminum hydroxide and 0.1 g of magnesium oxide with the addition of D-sorbitol.
Viscous liquid of white color, sweet, slightly astringent taste.
Applied with gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, acute and chronic hyperacid gastritis, reflux esophagitis and other gastrointestinal diseases, which show a decrease in acidity and proteolytic activity of gastric juice.
The action of the drug is associated with its antacid, adsorbing, enveloping and gastroprotective properties. The presence of D-sorbitol contributes to the strengthening of bile secretion and laxative effect. Dosage form (gel) creates the conditions for uniform distribution of the gastric mucosa and a longer effect.
Almagel-A contains additionally in every 5 ml of gel 0.1 g of anesthesin. Applied in the event that the above diseases are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, soreness.
Almagel and Almagel-A are administered orally: adults usually take 1-2 tea (dosing) spoons 4 times a day (in the morning, afternoon and evening 30 minutes before meals and before bedtime); children up to 10 years old - ⅓ adult dose, 10-15 years old - Ѕ adult dose. In order to avoid dilution of the drug should not drink liquid in the first half hour after taking it. It is recommended to lie down after taking the Almagel and several times (every 1-2 minutes) roll over from side to side (to improve its distribution over the gastric mucosa). The course of treatment 3-4 weeks.
Almagel well tolerated. In some cases, possible constipation, passing with a decrease in dosage. Large doses sometimes cause a state of mild drowsiness. With prolonged use of the drug should not eat food rich in phosphorus.
Almagel contraindicated in hypophosphatemia, renal failure, pregnancy.
Form release: suspension for oral administration in bottles of 170 and 200 ml.
Storage: in a cool place; freezing is not allowed.
