HALOPIDIDOL (Haloperidolum). 4- (chlorophenyl) - 1 [3'- (p-fluorobenzoyl) -propyl] -piperidinol-4, or 4- [4- (p-chlorophenyl) -4-hydroxypiperidino] -4'-fluorobutyrophenone.

Synonyms: Halofen, Aloperidin, Haldol, Halidol, Haloperidin, Haloperin, Halophen, Haloperidol, Halopidol, Serenace, Seranase, and others.

Haloperidol is one of the most active modern neuroleptics. Has a sedative effect, potentiates the effects of sleeping pills, drugs and analgesics. It blocks central a-noradrenergic and especially strongly central dopaminergic receptors; Central and peripheral anticholinergic effect does not. Relatively often causes extrapyramidal disorders. Has a strong antiemetic effect.

Haloperidol is an effective tool for arresting all kinds of arousal, especially in manic states, acute delirium. It is often effective in patients resistant to other neuroleptic substances. In contrast to the aminazine does not cause patients lethargy and apathy, on the contrary, has an activating effect.

Applied in schizophrenic psychoses, manic states, paranoid delusions, agitated depression, oligophrenic, involutional, epileptiform, alcoholic psychosis and other diseases, accompanied by hallucinations, psychomotor agitation.

In the case of alcoholic delirium with visual hallucinations, under the influence of haloperidol, motor sedation quickly sets in and hallucinations disappear.

Haloperidol can be used in combination with sleeping pills, analgesics and other neurotropic drugs in preparation for surgery. There are data on the effectiveness of the drug for the relief of pain syndrome, arousal, nausea and vomiting in acute coronary insufficiency (often together with analgesics).

As an antiemetic may be used for vomiting of various origins.

In small doses it is used for neurotic and reactive conditions.

Assign inside (before meals) or intramuscularly.

The initial daily dose in the absence of pronounced excitation is 0,0015 - 0,003 g (1,5 - 3 mg) inwards, and in patients resistant to antipsychotics - 0,0045 g (4, 5 mg). The daily dose is divided into 3 doses and taken in tablets or drops in half an hour after meals. Every day, the dose is increased by 0.5-2 mg (in resistant cases, 2-4 mg) until a therapeutic effect is obtained. Therapeutic daily dose is usually 10-15 mg per day, and for chronic forms of schizophrenia 20-40 mg (up to 50-60 mg). Duration of treatment 2 -3 months. Reduce the dose slowly. Supportive doses range from 0.5 to 5 mg per day.

Children under the age of 5 years are given 1/4 of 6 to 15 years - 1/2 dose of adults.

To stop psychomotor agitation appoint intramuscularly in the early days of 2-5 mg (0.4-1 ml 0.5% solution) 2 - 3 times a day. When the effect is achieved, they switch to taking the drug inside.

As an antiemetic haloperidol, adults are prescribed 0.0015 0.002 g (1, 5 - 2 mg); As a sedative, according to 0.0005 g (0.5 mg).
