Description of the medicine: Penfluridol (Penfluridolum)
PENFLURIDOL (Penfluridolum). 1- [4, 4-Bis- (para-fluorophenyl) -butyl] -4- [4-chloro-3- (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] - 4-piperidinol.
Synonyms: Semap, Fluridol, Longoran, Longoperidol, Micefal, Oraleptin, Semap.
In structure and action, it is close to pimozide. It has a prolonged antipsychotic effect, due to the slow metabolism of the drug. The effect after a single dose persists for about a week, while the action of pimozide lasts about 24 hours.
Indications for use and contraindications are basically the same as for pimozide. It is most shown as a means for maintenance therapy in patients with low-grade and sluggish schizophrenia.
Assign inside 20-60 mg (sometimes up to 100 mg) every 5 to 7 days (average dose 40-60 mg per week).
Release form: tablets on 0,02 g (20 mg) in a package of 12 pieces.
There is also a sustained-release drug penfluuridol decanoate.
