Medication Description: Penfluridol (Penfluridolum)
PENFLURIDOL (Penfluridolum). 1- [4, 4-Bis- (p-fluorophenyl) -butyl] -4- [4-chloro-3- (trifluoromethyl) -phenyl] -4-piperidinol.
Synonyms: Semap, Fluridol, Longoran, Longoperidol, Micefal, Oraleptin, Semap.
In structure and action close to pimozide. It has a prolonged neuroleptic effect, which is explained by the slow metabolism of the drug. The effect after a single dose lasts about a week, while the effect of pimozide lasts about 24 hours.
Indications for use and contraindications are basically the same as for pimozide. Most shown as a means for maintenance therapy in patients with low-progreduated and slow-acting schizophrenia.
Assign inside 20 to 60 mg (sometimes up to 100 mg) every 5 to 7 days (average dose of 40 to 60 mg per week).
Product form: tablets of 0.02 g (20 mg) in a package of 12 pieces.
There is also a drug of prolonged action of penfluridol decanoate.
