Description of the medicine: Norethisteronum

NORETHISTERON (Norethisteronum). 17 a-Ethinyl-17β-hydroxy-4-estren-3-one, or 17 α-ethynyl-19-nortestosterone.

Synonyms: Norkolut, Ethynylnortestosterone, Aethynilnortestosteron, Anovule, Anzolan, Dianor, Fortilut, Gestest, Hormoluton, Micronor, Noralutin, Norcolut, Norethindrone, Norfor, Norgestin, Noridel, Norluten, Norlutin, Norluton, Norprogen, Primolut N, Santalut, etc.

The structure of norethisterone is close to ethinyl estradiol. It differs from the latter by the presence of a ketone group (instead of a hydroxyl group) in position C and a double bond at position 4-5 of ring A.

Norethisterone is a well-absorbed oral progestogen. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is detected 1 to 2 hours after taking the drug.

Indications for use are basically the same as for other progestins (see Progesteron, Pregnin), including dysfunctional uterine bleeding, premenstrual syndrome, menstrual cycle disorder, as well as endometriosis, cystic glandular endometrial hyperplasia, and others.

Assign inside usually at a dose of 0.005-0.01 g (5-10 mg) per day (1-2 tablets).

With premenstrual syndrome and menstrual irregularities, 1 to 2 tablets per day are prescribed, starting from the 16th day of the cycle to the 25th day. With dysfunctional uterine bleeding and cystic glandular endometrial hyperplasia, 1 to 2 tablets are prescribed per day for 6 to 12 days. To prevent recurrence, take the same dose in the period from the 16th to the 25th day of the cycle (usually together with the estrogen drug).

When endometriosis is prescribed for a long time (for 6 months) 1 tablet per day from the 5th to the 25th day of the cycle or 1/2 tablet, starting from the 5th day of the cycle and gradually increasing the dose by 1/2 tablet every 2 - 3 weeks for 4 - 6 months.

With a climacteric syndrome, 1 tablet a day (prolonged) is prescribed, if necessary together with an estrogen preparation, for example ethinylestradiol at a dose of 0.025-0.05 mg (25-50 μg per day).

In all cases, doses of norethisterone should be selected individually, depending on the nature of the disease, the effectiveness of the therapy and the tolerability of the drug.

At application nausea, allergic reactions (a skin rash, etc.), paresthesias, the raised fatigability, etc. are possible or probable.

Contraindications: see Progesterone.
