METANDROSTENOLONE (Methan drostenolonum). 17a-Methylandrostadien-1, 4-ol-17 b-one 3.

Synonyms: Dianabol, Nerobol, Anabolex, Anabolin, Anaboral, Bionabol, Danabol, Dehydromethyltestosteron, Dianabol, Distranorm, Lanabolin, Metanabol, Metandienone, Metandienonum, Metastenol, Methastenon, Nabolin, Nerobol, Novabol, Perabol, Perbolin, Stenolon, Vanabol and others.

White or white with a yellowish tinge of crystalline powder. Very little soluble in water, easily soluble in alcohol.

By chemical structure and biological action is close to testosterone and its analogues. It has androgenic activity, however, in this respect is much less active than testosterone, but also has a pronounced anabolic effect (see Testosterone propionate). The androgenic effect of methandrostenolone is 100 times less than that of testosterone propionate with approximately the same anabolic activity.

The main indications for the use of methandrostenolone, as well as other anabolic steroids, are violations of protein anabolism with cachexia of various origins, asthenia, infectious and other diseases accompanied by loss of protein. The drug is given to convalescent after severe injuries, surgeries, burns.

In endocrinological practice, methandrostenolone and other anabolic steroids are used for interstitial-pituitary insufficiency, chronic adrenal insufficiency, toxic goiter, diabetic angiopathy (retinopathy and nephropathy), steroid diabetes, and pituitary dwarfism.

In therapeutic practice, they are prescribed for chronic coronary insufficiency and myocardial infarction, myocarditis, rheumatic heart disease and atherosclerotic cardiosclerosis, myocardial overstrain, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, chronic ulcerative kidney disease accompanied by loss of protein and azotemia, chronic lung diseases.

These drugs are also used in osteoporosis, delayed formation of bone callus, large fractures and after plastic operations on the bones, with myopathies and progressive muscular dystrophy; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; Progressive myopia and senile degeneration of the retina, eczema, psoriasis.

In pediatric practice, it is used for growth retardation, anorexia, a decline in nutrition, and the like.

For elderly and elderly people, anabolic steroids are sometimes recommended to improve compensatory and adaptive processes.

Methandrostenolone is taken orally. Doses and duration of treatment are set individually depending on the nature of the disease, the patient's age, the effectiveness and tolerability of the drug, the results of clinical and biochemical studies. Usually the daily intake for adults is 0.005-0.01 g (1 tablet of 5 mg 1 - 2 times a day before meals). In the first days of treatment, the daily dose can be increased to 0.02 g (4 tablets), and in some cases (with depletion, cachexia, uremia) - up to 0.03 g (30 mg). For long-term therapy appoint 0,005 g (5 mg) per day.
