Description of the medicine: Taufonum

Taufonum. 2-Aminoethanesulfonic acid.

Synonyms: Taurine, Taurine.

White crystalline powder, soluble in water, almost insoluble in alcohol.

Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that forms in the body during the conversion of cysteine. Contained in a number of food products.

Taurine contributes to the improvement of energy processes. It plays a big role in the metabolism of fats, it is part of paired bile acids (taurocholic, taurodeoxycholic) that promote emulsification of fats in the intestine.

Recently, it has been established that in the brain taurine plays the role of a neurotransmitter amino acid that inhibits synaptic transmission, has anticonvulsant activity, and also has a cardiotropic effect. A characteristic feature of taurine is the ability to stimulate reparative processes in dystrophic disorders of the retina, traumatic lesions of the eye tissues.

For medical use, taurine is available as a 4% aqueous solution called "Taufon".

Apply taufon in adults with dystrophic lesions of the retina of the eye, including hereditary taperotinatal degeneration, corneal dystrophy, senile, diabetic, traumatic and radiation cataracts, and also as a means of stimulating the recovery processes in corneal injuries. There is evidence of the effectiveness of taufon as a means of reducing intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma.

Patients with cataracts taufon appointed as instilljatsy on 2 - 3 drops 2 - 4 times a day daily within 3 months. The courses are repeated at monthly intervals. When injuries are used in the same doses for 1 month. For treatment of taperotinal degeneration and other dystrophic diseases of the retina, as well as with penetrating wounds of the cornea, taufon inject 0.3 ml of a 4% solution once a day for 10 days under the conjunctiva. The course of treatment with taufonom after 6 - 8 months is repeated.

When glaucoma (open-ended) taufon apply in the form of drops in combination with timolol (instillation 2 times a day for 20 - 30 minutes before taking timolol). A number of patients noted a significant increase in the hypotensive effect due to an increase in the coefficient of ease of outflow and a decrease in the production of aqueous humor.

Form release: 4% solution in vials of 5 ml and in ampoules of 1 ml.

Storage: in a cool, dark place.
