INCASAN (Incazanum). 3-Methyl-8-methoxy-3H-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyrazino [1,2,3-a, b] b-carboline hydrochloride.

Synonyms: Metralindole, Metralindolum, Metralindol.

White or white with a slightly creamy hue of crystalline powder. Soluble in water, hardly soluble in ethyl alcohol.

The chemical structure and pharmacological properties are similar to pyrazidol. Like pyrazidol, it is a reversible inhibitor of MAO type A, activates noradrenergic and serotonergic processes in the central nervous system. Partially inhibits MAO type B. It manifests antagonism to the action of reserpine, enhances the effect of phenamine, L-dopa, 5-hydroxytryptophan. Unlike pyrazidol, it enhances the central effects of phenylethylamine.
