Reactive psychosis

Conditions arising from the impact of factors that are of particular importance to the patient or threatening his life and well-being. One of the main signs of reactive psychosis
- their temporary and reversible nature. Occurring in response to the traumatic situation, they cease after its resolution and disappearance. The clinical picture, as a rule, reflects, or "sounds", the content of a mental trauma. Unlike neuroses, which also arise due to the influence of the psychogenic factor, reactive psychoses are characterized by the severity of the condition, the greater depth of the disorders, the loss of a critical assessment of their condition and events occurring around them. The emergence of reactive psychosis, its nature and features of the symptomatology depend on the strength and significance of the trauma of the personality, as well as on its constitutional features. Reactive psychosis occurs more easily in psychopathic personalities, for example, hysterical, emotionally unstable, paranoid.
Predicting factors may be severe somatic diseases, past traumatic brain injuries, prolonged alcoholism, forced insomnia, overwork, etc. The most vulnerable in terms of the emergence of pathological mental reactions are the adolescent and climacteric periods.
Symptoms and course:
Depending on the clinical manifestations, acute reactive states (affective-shock reactions) and prolonged psychoses are isolated.
