Brain Injury

Mechanical damage to the brain, which occurs as a result of a blow to the head or to the head.
Symptoms and course:
The injuries of the brain are those in which consciousness is lost. The old authors wrote that the concussion of the brain begins where the mind ends. But a concussion is the easiest trauma of the brain. A heavier lesion is a brain contusion. After losing consciousness (and it is necessarily lost, even for a few seconds), the patient comes to and can not remember the moment of injury, or even that which was directly before the impact. Usually patients after a few minutes complain of nausea, headache, then vomiting, which does not bring relief, is added.
Recognition:
If the patient lost consciousness after a head injury, headache, nausea, and even more so vomiting, then with a high degree of probability, we can assume that he suffered a concussion of the brain. However, behind the mask of a simple concussion, a more serious lesion may disappear: a fracture of the base of the skull, a slowly growing hematoma (a blood tumor).
Treatment:
When establishing the diagnosis of "brain concussion" patient must be hospitalized for examination and exclusion of a more serious disease. With a slight tremor, it can be treated at home, with an average and severe shaking, the patient must be at least 2-3 weeks on strict bed rest and under the supervision of a doctor. It is necessary to treat even a slight concussion of the brain, since its effects may be different (see Post-traumatic lesions of the nervous system).
