Acute non-lactational mastitis

Acute non-lactational mastitis occurs rarely, usually after 40 years. A thorough differential diagnosis is required with mastitis-like breast cancer. During surgical treatment, a part of the abscess wall is excised for histological examination.

In some cases, the mammary gland produces fatty necrosis caused by local trauma. The necrosis zone is located in close proximity to the skin, accompanied by a painful compaction with fuzzy outlines, there may be fluctuations, the temperature is more often normal. In the anamnesis - a trauma of a mammary gland. Cytological diagnosis is necessary to exclude cancer.
