Occlusion of carotid arteries

Occlusion of carotid arteries leads to a violation of blood flow in the basin of the internal carotid and middle cerebral artery. Symptoms: Stage 1 is asymptomatic, arteriography reveals stenosis of the artery, whose danger is thromboembolism, stage II - a high degree of narrowing of the vessel with intermittent ischemia with syncopal, several minutes of hemiparesis, aphasia, gait disturbance and sensitivity (transient ischemic attack). Complications-thrombosis of small cerebral vessels; III stage - complete occlusion of the artery, manifested by sudden apoplexy with loss of consciousness, complete picture of apoplexy stroke; Stage IV - remaining neurological signs after a stroke.

Indications for operation in stage 1 are relative (narrowing of the lumen more than 50%, simultaneous stenosis or occlusion on the other side); In the II stage are absolute and in the III stage are relative (only in the first 6 hours, while consciousness is preserved).
