Parathyroid Tumors

Tumors of the parathyroid gland. They are rare. Usually they are benign adenomas, sometimes carcinomas. They differ in slow development. Metastasize to regional lymph nodes, lungs, liver.

The clinical picture is represented by the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism, associated with increased release of parathyroid hormone. Laboratory studies show hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, increased excretion of calcium and phosphorus in the urine. As a result of this resorption of bone tissue, pain occurs in the bones, their deformation, osteoporosis, fractures. Nephrocalcites are formed, kidney failure develops in the future. Among other manifestations - anorexia, vomiting, neuromuscular disorders, symptoms of pancreatitis, stomach ulcers.

The diagnosis is established on the basis of the data of the study of parathyroid hormone in the blood, ultrasound and computed tomography of the parathyroid gland zones. Treatment is surgical.
