Cancer of the salivary glands

Cancer of the salivary glands. More often there are malignant tumors in the parotid gland, less often in the submaxillary and sublingual. Cipindromes predominate (adenokistoznaya carcinoma), adenocarcinoma, less often epidermoid carcinomas and malodifferentcated cancer.

Cylindromes have a dense capsule, are poorly dislocated, grow slowly, cause severe pain, paralysis of facial musculature. This tumor is characterized by hematogenous metastasis (into the lungs, bones). In 10% of patients metastases are observed in the cervical lymph nodes. Malignant tumors, which are characterized by a different histological structure, grow rapidly, there are no clear boundaries of the tumor, the skin, subcutaneous tissue is infiltrated. The facial and other nerves are involved in the process. In 50% of patients metastasis is observed in the cervical lymph nodes.

Salivary gland cancer can also occur as a result of malignancy of a long-term mixed tumor of this organ.

Treatment. Leading is the surgical method. Tumors of this localization are radioresistant. From antitumor drugs can be used cisplatin, adriaplastin, fluorouracil and methotrexate.
