Hysterosalpingography

This is an x-ray method of examination, which makes it possible to assess the size and relief of the uterine mucosa, the patency and functional state of the fallopian tubes. The method is one of the basic for the diagnosis of tubal infertility. Immediately before the GHA should be verified with the help of vaginal smears in the absence of inflammation in the genital tract. Failure to comply with this condition can lead to an aggravation of the inflammatory process after pictures and sharply worsen the condition of the pipes. In case the smears are unsuccessful, it is necessary to conduct the treatment before the study and to achieve their stable normalization.

How is the procedure performed?

  • The woman is on the gynecological chair.

  • The doctor puts a mirror in the patient's vagina to see the cervix.

  • The cervix is fixed, a catheter (probe) is inserted into the neck canal.

  • Through this catheter, a x-ray contrast medium is slowly introduced into the uterus.

  • After filling the uterus, the contrast begins to fill the uterine tubes, then poured into the abdominal cavity.

  • At the same time, a series of X-rays are produced, to obtain a better image of the uterine tube, the woman is asked to alternately slightly turn her side.

  • The procedure is completed, the instruments are removed from the cervix and vagina. Within a few minutes the woman still remains on the armchair, then rises, with the desire can become acquainted with the pictures ..

X-ray images give a good idea of the condition of the uterus and tubes, but do not allow to assess the degree of adhesion that leads to their obstruction, or to establish the presence of adhesions around the ovaries, foci of endometriosis, etc. In addition, if the radiographs clearly show the obstruction of the tubes, and pregnancy, despite the treatment, does not occur, the repetition of the photographs is completely meaningless. In this case, it is necessary to resort to laparoscopic examination.
