Curvature of nasal septum

The curvature of the nasal septum is a consequence of an abnormality in the development of the facial skeleton or trauma. On the curved part of the nasal septum, there are often bony or cartilaginous thickenings in the form of a crest or spine.

Symptoms, course. Difficulty or switching off of nasal breathing. Often there is a chronic inflammation of the auditory tube and the tympanum. Hindering the outflow of a secret from the paranasal sinuses, a curved nasal septum can contribute to the development of sinusitis. Curvatures, thorns and ridges, touching the shell, sometimes cause reflex neuroses.

Treatment. With a significant curvature, which prevents nasal breathing, submucosal resection of the nasal septum is indicated. Often limited to the removal of thorns and ridges.
