Otosclerosis (otoplasmosis)

Otosclerosis (otospongmosis) -fractional lesion of the osteal capsule of the labyrinth of unclear etiology. Progressive hearing loss is a consequence of the fixation of the otosclerotic focus of the footplate of the stirrup in the oval window. In some cases, the pathological expansion of the bone extends to the cochlear duct. The disease occurs usually during puberty or in the next few years after it. Sometimes occurs in childhood (8-10 years). Women are sick more often than men.

Symptoms, course. Progressive hearing loss (usually on both ears), coming more often without any apparent cause, noise in the ears. Often, noise in the ears is the main complaint of patients, and in a noisy environment the patient hears better, the disease usually develops slowly. Pregnancy and childbirth usually accelerate the course of the process. With otoscopy, unchanged eardrums are visible. The diagnosis is based on anamnesis, clinical and audiometric data. With typical tympanal form of otosclerosis, hearing loss is observed in terms of the type of disturbance of the function of the sound-conducting system. Mixed form of otosclerosis is characterized by moderate, and cochlear - significantly involved in the process of sound-receiving system. In these cases it is necessary to conduct differential diagnosis with cochlear neuritis.

Surgical treatment (stapedoplasty).
