Vaginitis (colpitis) - inflammation of the vaginal mucosa. Pathogens: strepto- and staphylococci, Escherichia, Trichomonas, fungi (Candida). Predisposing factors: common diseases, ovarian hypofunction, non-observance of personal hygiene rules, involution processes in old age.

Symptoms, course. There are acute, subacute and chronic course. In acute inflammation of the complaint of a feeling of heaviness in the vagina, burning and itching in the area of ​​the external genitalia, abundant serous-purulent leucorrhoea. In the study with the help of vaginal mirrors, there are flushing of the vaginal mucosa with pinpoint hemorrhage and abundant leucorrhoea. In a chronic stage, patients do not complain. The diagnosis is based on a characteristic anamnesis, gynecological examination data and bacterioscopy of leucorrhoea.

Treatment depends on the cause of vaginitis. In case of acute inflammation, irrigate the mucous membrane of the vagina with chamomile infusion or lactic acid solution (2 teaspoons per 1 liter of water), prescribe vaginal baths (2% solution of silver nitrate, 3-5% protargol solution), vaginal tampons with sintomycin emulsion. With trihomonadnom vaginitis apply Trichopolum inside 0.25 g 2 times a day for 7-10 days (necessarily simultaneous treatment of her husband). Contraindications: pregnancy (early terms), violations of hemopoiesis, CNS damage. Locally apply octylin in the form of 1% or 3% solution or in the form of vaginal balls. With candidiasis stomatitis (thrush), the vagina is treated with a 3% solution of sodium tetraborate (borax). Vaginitis caused by candida fungi is treated with nystatin and levoin (suppositories and globules containing 250,000 and 500,000 units of nystatin or suppositories containing 250,000 units of levorin), and an antifungal drug called clotrimazole is prescribed. (2 tablets are injected into the vagina at Night, treatment course 2 over). With senile vaginitis, vaginal douches are shown with a solution of lactic acid (1 teaspoon per glass) followed by the insertion of tampons with a sintomycin emulsion or with oestrus solutions of estrogens.
