True aneurysms

True aneurysms. Aneurysm of the thoracic aorta is more often caused by degenerative changes in the middle shell of the aortic wall (cystic degeneration, Marfan syndrome, syphilis, atherosclerosis). It often develops in the proximal part of the ascending aorta, accompanied by an expansion of the aortic valve flaps.

Symptoms, course. The age of the patients is 40-60 years. The first symptom is often a deficiency of the aortic valve (see Heart defects). Less common saccular aneurysm can cause compression of the superior vena cava, trachea. In the study, the characteristic signs of aortic valve insufficiency with typical diastolic noise are found. When X-ray examination reveals a significant expansion of the ascending aorta. The cause of death of such patients may be progressive left ventricular failure. Surgical treatment is indicated with increasing hemodynamic disorders due to aortic valve insufficiency and / or progressive expansion of the ascending aorta. The operation consists in prosthetics of the ascending aorta and aortic valves.
