Aneurysm of descending thoracic aorta

Aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta is caused by atherosclerosis, syphilitic lesion, trauma.

Symptoms. Men are more often ill at the age of 50-70 years. Atherosclerotic aneurysm usually localizes in the proximal part of the descending aorta. X-ray examination shows aortic enlargement-saccular (more often syphilitic aneurysm) or spindle-shaped (atherosclerotic aneurysm).

The diagnosis is confirmed with the help of computer X-ray tomography of the thoracic cavity, as well as aortography.

Treatment operative - excision of aneurysm with alloprosthetics.
