Cervical diverticulum

Cervical diverticulum arises as a result of weakness of the posterior wall of the pharyngeal-esophageal transition from one side and dyskinesia of the cricoid-pharyngeal muscle, on the other. Probably, the reason is a violation of coordination of contractions of the pharynx and cricoid-pharyngeal muscle, acting as the upper sphincter of the esophagus. As a result of premature contraction of the upper sphincter, there is an increase in pressure, and the mucous membrane of the triangle Kiplian bulges out, forming a diverticulum.

Symptoms. The main symptom is dysphagia. Even a small diverticulum can cause spasmodic dysphagia. With a large diverticulum after eating, there is a feeling of pressure and raspiraniya in the neck, while at the front of the left nipple muscle appears education. Gradually filled with food diverticulum squeezes the esophagus and sometimes causes complete dysphagia. When the diverticulum is emptied, regurgitation of food remains, accompanied by a specific noise, the passage of food through the esophagus is restored. When pressure is applied to the diverticulum, the remnants of food also regurgitate; There is no acidic gastric contents. Regurgitation can occur at night, on the pillow there are traces of food and mucus, there is an unpleasant smell from the mouth, coughing, the voice acquires a gurgling shade.

Treatment operative: isolation and excision of the diverticulum, intersection of the cricoid-pharyngeal muscle. The prognosis is favorable.
