Epiphrenial diverticulum

An epiphrenic diverticulum of a pulsatile nature is located in the lower third of the esophagus above the esophageal opening of the diffractor. It comes most often from the right wall of the esophagus, but grows to the left.

Symptoms. Pain caused by increased pressure in the diverticulum, dysphagia. Complications-esophagitis, perforation (with diverticulitis). Differential diagnosis is carried out with cardiospasm, parasophageal hernia and esophageal cancer. Operative treatment is indicated for large diverticula, prone to the development of complications. Transthoracic access. Mortality is less than 3%.

The prognosis is favorable.
