Meckel's diverticulum

Meckel's diverticulum is the remainder of the yolk duct. The frequency is 2-3%. It is located on the antiplasmic edge of the ileum at 60-100 cm from the ileocecal angle. It is a true diverticulum, all layers of the intestine are in its wall; Can be and ectopic tissue of the stomach, pancreas, islets of colonic epithelium.

Symptoms. Uncomplicated diverticulum is asymptomatic. Half of patients are younger than 10 years and half are younger than 30 years. Sometimes the first symptom, especially in childhood, may be intestinal bleeding, the source of which is ulceration of the islets of the ectopic mucosa of the stomach. The resulting diverticulitis can simulate a clinic for acute appendicitis, and preoperative diagnosis is almost impossible. Therefore, in case of a discrepancy in the clinical picture of acute appendicitis, a revision of approximately 1 m of the ileum is required at the time of appendectomy changes in the appendix. Other complications: perforation into the free abdominal cavity with the development of peritonitis, the development of intestinal obstruction, malignancy of the ectopic mucosa of the stomach with the development of cancer. A combination of several complications is possible.

Treatment is operative - dissection of the diverticulum with the closure of the intestinal wall.

The prognosis is favorable.
