Adenoiditis is an inflammatory disease of the pharyngeal tonsil. It is most common in preschool and primary school children. The inflammatory process in the pharyngeal tonsils proceeds similarly to the inflammatory process in the tonsils of tonsillitis (tonsillitis). Long-term untreated chronic adenoiditis, as well as tonsillitis, can lead to the emergence and heavier flow of kidney diseases (glomeru-lonephritis), rheumatism, heart defects, diseases of the digestive tract, etc.

Causes of adenoiditis

The following factors predispose to the development of adenoiditis: artificial feeding of the baby, monotonous, predominantly carbohydrate diet, the presence of rickets (vitamin D deficiency), diathesis (mainly exudative), allergies, hypothermia, environmental factor (prolonged exposure to dry, polluted air). Acute adenoiditis develops in young children due to activation of the microbial flora of the nasopharynx under the influence of hypothermia or as a complication of any infectious disease.

Symptoms of adenoiditis

The clinical picture of acute adenoiditis is characterized by the appearance of a mucopurulent discharge from the nasopharynx (these discharges flow down the posterior wall of the pharynx and are visible during examination), an increase in body temperature, and difficulty in nasal breathing. Very often, with acute adenoiditis, the eustachian (auditory) tube becomes involved in the inflammatory process, which is manifested by pain in the ear, a decrease in hearing on the side of the lesion. This is characterized by severe pain in the ear, deterioration of hearing, the appearance of a purulent discharge from the auditory canal.

Chronic adenoiditis is a consequence of acute acute inflammation of adenoids. It is often combined with an increase in the size of the pharyngeal tonsil (adenoids). Manifestations of the disease: a slight increase in body temperature (subfebrile condition), a child's lag in mental and physical development, increased fatigue, poor school performance, impaired attention, drowsiness along with poor sleep, headache, decreased appetite, night cough (due to backflow Pharynx of the purulent discharge from the inflamed tonsil). Often chronic adenoiditis is accompanied by chronic eustachitis, which is accompanied by progressive hearing impairment.

Diagnostics

The diagnosis of acute and chronic adenoiditis is made with ENT examination.

Traditional treatment for adenoiditis

For the purpose of restoring nasal breathing, it is recommended to instill in the nose, 3 times a day, a vasoconstrictive drop in the nose (they remove the swelling of the mucous membrane and restore the patency of the respiratory tract). The most frequently prescribed drugs include galazoline, naphthyzine, xylenes, vibrocil, sanorin, etc. Bury 1 to 2 drops in each nostril. Treatment with vasoconstrictive drugs should not last longer than 5 - 7 days, as a longer use of them can lead to the development of atrophic processes in the nasal mucosa (thinning and drying of the mucosa). Before instilling the child's nose must be thoroughly cleaned of accumulated mucus and crusts.

For this, the older child is asked to blow his nose, the young children are sucked off the mucus from the nose with a rubber can. A few minutes after instillation of the medicine, the nose is again cleaned.

  • After the vasoconstrictor, antiseptics or antibacterial drugs are injected into the nose (protargol, albucid, bioparox). The drug is instilled after re-nose nose.
  • In chronic adenoiditis are prescribed antihistamine (antiallergic) drugs (claritin, tavegil, diazolin, suprastin, pipolfen). The dosage of drugs depends on the age of the child. Because of the possible development of a "medicamental" cold, from which to get rid
  • Obligatory is vitamin therapy. Multivitamin preparations are used (Multi-Tabs, Vitrum, Jungle, etc.).
  • An essential component of adequate treatment of adenoiditis is the rational nutrition of the child. From the diet of the patient it is necessary to exclude all products that are potential allergens: chocolate, cocoa, sweets, citrus (oranges, tangerines, lemons), strawberries, seafood, nuts. It is recommended to increase the consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, berries (except for banned); Exclude from the diet easily digestible carbohydrates (semolina, fresh pastry, confectionery).
  • Showing breathing exercises. In acute adenoiditis, it prevents the transition of the disease to a chronic form, with chronic adenoiditis - promotes the preservation of nasal breathing and the prevention of hypertrophy of the pharyngeal tonsil (adenoids). In case of an acute process, respiratory gymnastics should be started in the period of recovery, with chronic process in the interval between exacerbations of the disease.
Exercise 1 . Starting position: sitting or standing. Slowly inhale and exhale through one nostril, then inhale and exhale through both nostrils, then inhale through the right nostril - exhale through the left, then inhale through the left nostril, exhale - through the right nostril, then inhale through the nose, exhale - through the mouth. During the exercise, the child or himself closes one nostril one by one, or the adult helps him. After doing this exercise, the child sits (stands) quietly for a while, and the adult does to him a nostril massage - takes a forefinger with his index finger along the nostrils, exhales - tapping the forefingers with index fingers.
Exercise 2 . Inflate balloons or inflatable toys.
Exercise 3 . Exercise "gurgling". Take a bottle or a deep plate, dip a rubber tube about 40 cm long with a hole of 1 cm in diameter, and put the other end into the child's mouth. The child should breathe in with his nose, and exhale with his mouth ("gurgle"). The duration of the exercise is 5 minutes. It is performed daily for several months.
Recommended mobile games, swimming in the pool and open water.
  • Hydrotherapy helps well:
    • Washing of the nose. Make a solution: in 1 liter of cold water dilute 1 tbsp. L. Salt. Prepared solution to nuzzle 4 times. Repeat the procedure 3 times a day;
    • Moist compress on the neck. Dampen the bath towel with cold water, squeeze out. Collapse the towel 4 times and wrap it around the patient's neck, when the towel is warm - take it off. Repeat procedure 4 - 5 times. The procedure must be done every morning and evening.
