Botanical characteristics. Perennial herbaceous plant up to 40 cm. Grows on dry sandy soils.
Rhizome short, weakly branching, with thin bright roots. Stalk straight with remnants of dead leaves. Leaves are short-stemmed, oblong-ovate, stem - sessile linear-lanceolate. The flowers are yellow or orange, collected in corymbose inflorescences. Fruits are small, brown achene. Blossoms in June - July, fruits in August - September. Introduced into the culture, due to high demand.
Spread. Quite widespread in the European part of Russia, in Western Siberia, in the Caucasus, in Central Asia. It grows on dry sandy soils, in light pine forests, on hillsides, on fields, sometimes forming continuous thickets.
Used plant parts. Medicinal raw materials are unblown baskets with a stem up to 5 cm, which are dried in a dryer at a temperature not higher than 40 ° C, and seeds collected as they mature.
Chemical composition. Application. Immortelle is widely used in medicine. Flowers are included in the domestic pharmacopoeia of the 8-10th edition and the pharmacopoeia of several countries of the world.
Herbal preparations (dry extract and granules) are used as a choleretic agent for cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, hepatitis, biliary dyskinesia.
The drug "Arenarine" in the form of an ointment is used for eye burns, erosions and corneal ulcers of various etiologies, as a regenerating and antibiotic agent.

But, mostly, the immortelle is used in folk and scientific medicine as an excellent hepatic remedy, regulating both bile formation and bile excretion . It is used in diseases of the liver, biliary tract and pancreas, has a diuretic, anthelmintic, hemostatic effect.
In the experiment, the extract has antiviral activity, increases blood pressure, promotes rapid bile secretion, has hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties; activates the secretory ability of the pancreas; Arenarine is active against type B influenza virus, boosts the body's immunity, has anti-inflammatory properties; essential oil increases the excretion of bile and bile acids; the amount of polysaccharides has a spasmolytic effect; infusions and decoctions show bactericidal and phytoncidal activity.
