Common oleander - nerium oleander
Family Cuttings (Apocynaceae).
Botanical characteristics. A bush or small tree, 3 to 4 m in height, with a smooth light gray bark. Leaves are evergreen, leathery, whole-tied, with pubescent pubescence. The flowers are correct, collected in the apical half-zonotics. Corolla pink, less often white with bend and dentate outgrowths. Blooms from June to August. Fruit - 2 leaves.
Spread. Oleander ordinary comes from the Mediterranean. Widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in the Crimea. It is grown as a room decorative flower plant.

Chemical composition. Leaves and flowers of oleander contain digitalin, oleandrin, diuretically acting substance of Neri, flavonoids (rutin, tempferol, etc.), saponin carobin, ursolic acid.
Application. Oleander extracts increase the antiviral activity of immune cells and activate tumor necrosis cells.
Oleander ordinary - an effective cardiotonic agent, similar in its effect to digitalis preparations. Oleander preparations improve cardiac activity, slow down the rhythm of the heart, increase diuresis, dilate the coronary vessels, lower blood pressure. Unlike glycosides, digitalis glycosides of oleander act faster and softer. Oleander is ordinarily prescribed for tachyarrhythmia, with thyrotoxicosis, with mild forms of heart failure and angina.
In folk medicine, the infusion of oleander leaves is drunk with nervous exhaustion, headaches, epilepsy, insomnia, and tumors.
As an external agent, the infusion of oleander leaves is used for lotions and compresses with soaking eczema, lichen, skin cancer, and also for rinsing with toothache.
Preparation
- Infusion from the leaves of oleander ordinary: 1 tsp. Raw pour 2 cups of boiling water, insist 1 hour, filter. Take 1 tbsp. L. 3 times a day before meals.
- Ointment from flowers and leaves of oleander ordinary: Flowers and leaves are carefully triturated with a smalt in a mass ratio of 3: 5. Heat on a water bath for 15 minutes, stirring gently. Cool with constant stirring and use as an ointment for scabies, dermatitis caused by insect bites.
