Botanical characteristics. Family rose-colored. Perennial herbaceous plant up to 50 cm high. It has a thick, woody rhizome, from which numerous small roots leave. Rhizome is light yellow on the cut and reddish-brown outside. Stems erect, branching at the top, leaves alternate, triple or five-braided, wedge-shaped oblong. Small yellow solitary flowers have a four-petal corolla, which is what distinguishes them from other types of crabs. Blooms from May to September. The fruit is a multisen, ripens in June.

Spread. It grows by single specimens and large groups in the European part of Russia, in Ukraine and in Western Siberia. It occurs on forest fringes, on pastures, on clearings, in damp and dry dark places.

Used parts of the plant. Rhizomes without roots.
The rhizomes of the erect cedar are rich in tannic substances (up to 14%), there have been found glycoside tormentin, tormentol ether, acids (quinine and ellagic), wax, resins, flobafenes, starch and gum.

Application. In folk medicine due to the astringent anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and hemostatic properties of Kalgan. It is recommended for inflammatory diseases of the stomach and intestines, accompanied by acute and chronic diarrhea, with various bleeding - pulmonary, gastrointestinal, gynecological.
Sometimes used for gout, rheumatism, with acute and chronic liver diseases. Has some expectorant and choleretic effect.
Widely used externally in the form of compresses and lotions with bruises, wet wounds and eczema, with hemorrhoids, poorly healing cracks. Cinquefoil is used in gynecology for syringing, with whites, and also for rinsing with diseases of the nasopharynx and the oral mucosa.
The rhizomes of lapchatka are included in the countertop tea counterparts.

Preparation. The broth is prepared from the calculation of 2 teaspoons of raw material per 1 glass of water. Boil for 15-20 minutes, add to the original volume. Take 1-2 tablespoons 3-4 times a day for 20-40 minutes before meals.
For outdoor use, prepare a decoction in 2 or 3 times more concentrated than used inside.
