LUMBAGO (syn: lumbago) - a sudden sharp pain in the lumbar region and tonic tension of the lumbar muscles, caused most often by osteochondrosis of the lumbar intervertebral discs. In the process of the dystrophic process in the intervertebral disk, sharp movements of the spine (bending the body anteriorly or turning it to the side), physical exertion can lead to the formation of cracks, displacements of parts of the disk, which irritates nearby nervous structures, causing pain and tonic tension in the muscles of the lumbar region.

Lumbago is more common in men aged 30 - 50 years and older. Pain in this case is vomiting, piercing, shooting character. It is located deep in the muscles, ligaments and bones - the so-called deep pains. During a lumbago attack, a person usually freezes in a forced pose, as any movement increases pain. Severe pain lasts for several minutes, hours, then it gradually decreases, completely disappearing usually to the 7th-10th day. Sometimes sharp pain ("chamber") disappears as suddenly as it has arisen. An objective sign of lumbago is the limitation of mobility of the lumbar spine. Unlike radiculitis, paralysis and paresis do not happen, knee and Achilles reflexes are called, the sensitivity is preserved. Moderately expressed symptom Lasega.

With persistent pain in the lower back, especially if it is combined with other symptoms, a survey is shown in the hospital.

When lumbago needs a strict bed rest on a firm bed (on a wooden shield, placed under a thin mattress) for 5 to 10 days. Assign non-narcotic analgesics (analgin, reopyrin, baralgin), drugs that reduce muscle tone (midokalm, skutamil); Topically apply erythema doses of ultraviolet irradiation, diadynamic currents, chloroethyl irrigation, mustard plasters, pepper plaster. In the skin of the lumbar region rub ointments and liquids that have analgesic properties - finalgon , menovazin , efkamon, camphor alcohol, etc., apply reflexotherapy methods.

In order to prevent relapses, physical overstrain, work in an uncomfortable working posture, in damp and cold rooms should be avoided. It is advisable to use physical exercises for training the muscles of the lumbar region.
