Pasteurellosis is an infectious disease that belongs to the group of zoonoses; Occurs in the form of local purulent processes or sepsis.

Pathogen - Pasteurella multocida - short with rounded ends a stick, devoid of flagella, not forming a spore. In the environment, the pathogen is less stable, direct sunlight kills it in 1-2 hours; At t 75 0С the microbe dies instantly; In the ground and in feces it persists for 3-4 days.

The source of the infection is caused by sick animals and animal-bacterial carriers (domestic birds, large and small cattle, pigs, cats, dogs, rats, house mice), in which the pathogen is in saliva, blood, urine and feces. A person becomes infected by contact with sick animals and when bitten by them. It is possible to transmit the pathogen through food and water contaminated with animal excrement, as well as by transmission by bite of the flies. Poultry and livestock farms are more often ill.

The incubation period is 1-5 days. At the site of the pathogen in the subcutaneous tissue, abscess or phlegmon may appear, sometimes osteomyelitis develops. In a number of cases, there is a clinical picture of septic disease (high fever, arthritis, polymorphic rash). There are pneumonia , enteritis , meningitis , conjunctivitis . There are erased forms and bacteriocarrier.

The diagnosis is made on the basis of a clinical picture, an epidemiological history (the possibility of contact with animals) and the results of laboratory studies. In order to isolate the pathogen, a bacteriological examination of blood, sputum, mucus from the nose and throat, the contents of abscesses is carried out.

Lecture: the patient is hospitalized, antibiotics of the tetracyclinone and penicillin series are prescribed, general restorative and symptomatic agents; With local lesions showed surgical intervention.

The prognosis for timely treatment is favorable. Prevention is reduced to early detection and treatment of sick animals, veterinary and sanitary supervision, deratization, observance of precautionary measures when caring for sick animals (working in overalls, washing hands after contact with animals, etc.), stopping children from contact with sick pets.
