POLICYTEMIA (syn: erythremia) is a chronic disease of the hematopoietic system, characterized by a steady increase in the number of erythrocytes, the volume of circulating blood, an increase in the spleen and increased production in the bone marrow of erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets. Refers to a group of chronic leukemia. It develops gradually and has a long progressive course. There is a dark red color of the skin with cyanotic shade, itchy skin, fullness of mucous membranes.
