BURSIT - inflammation of the joints in the region of the elbow, a large trochanter of the femur, in the popliteal fossa, in the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon, calcaneus, etc. It occurs as a result of mechanical damage or as a complication of the infectious disease (influenza, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, brucellosis and Other).

In acute bursitis, pain and limited swelling of varying size, usually of mild consistency, appear in the area of the articular bag. The function of the joint is moderately limited.

Chronic bursitis is more common in people whose profession is associated with prolonged permanent mechanical irritation of the joint bag.

Treatment: rest, pressing bandage, UHF-therapy. In cases of purulent and chronic bursitis, treatment is usually carried out in a hospital.

The prognosis with the timely begun treatment is favorable. Prevention of chronic bursitis consists in the elimination of permanent injury to the articular bags.
