ERYTROPLAKY Cervix - a lesion of the mucous membrane of the vaginal part of the cervix, characterized by the atrophy of the surface layers of the epithelium. The etiology is not known. Symptomatic may be absent, sometimes there are leucorrhages or contact bleeding. Erythroplasty often accompanies colpitis and cervicitis . When examining the cervix with the help of vaginal mirrors, erythroplasty is a single, rarely multiple, small foci of bright red or burgundy color of irregular or rounded shape, slightly protruding above the surface of the mucous membrane. In colposcopy in the region of erythroplasty foci, a thin, flat epithelium is defined, through which the underlying tissue shows through; Foci when treated with a 3% solution of acetic acid pale, Lugol's solution is not stained. Erythroplasty, accompanied by atypical hyperplasia of basal layer cells, is referred to as pre-tumor diseases. To exclude a tumor , a cytological examination of the smear-imprint is performed, as well as a histological examination of the biopsy material.

Treatment consists in the obligatory elimination of the inflammatory process. With atypical hyperplasia of the basal layer cells, laser therapy, diathermocoagulation or diathermic excision (excision of the affected area with an electron-knife) is indicated. Applied also cryosurgical treatment. The prognosis for timely treatment is favorable.
