HONIT - inflammation of the knee joint. The causative agents of infection enter the joint cavity when it is damaged, by hematogenous or lymphogenous route.
Acute persecution is manifested by an increase in the joint in volume, local soreness, fever, pain during movements in the joint. The contours of the joint are smoothed out, the foot assumes a forced half-bent position in the knee joint. Exudate accumulates in the joint cavity. When purulent, drive the skin over the joint becomes edematous, hyperemic, passive and active movements in the joint are sharply painful, limited. Purulent fusion of the articular bag, surrounding tissues, a breakthrough of purulent exudate in the tissue of the thigh and lower leg are possible. The general condition of the patient in these cases is severe, body temperature rises to 39 ° C, chills are observed, 'sepsis may develop. In chronic drive local manifestations (fever, joint pain, swelling, impaired function) are less pronounced.
Treatment should be carried out in a hospital. The main condition for the successful treatment of gonitis is the immobilization of the joint with a plaster cast with a slight bend in the knee joint (5 - 10 °). Puncture and arthroscopy of the knee joint allow for cytological and bacteriological examination of the exudate, determine the sensitivity of the microflora to antibiotics, and enter drugs directly into the pathological focus.
