Delirium (syn: delirious syndrome) - acute disturbance of consciousness with disorientation and fear experience, visual hallucination, marked motor excitation, often with aggressive or suicidal actions. Depending on the cause that caused the delirious confusion of consciousness, distinguish alcoholic, vascular, infectious, intoxicating delirium, etc. In the case of a short-term disorder (abortive delirium), consciousness can become clear after a long (16-18 hours) sleep; Light intervals occur usually in the morning hours and with the active involvement of the patient's attention. Left alone, he again begins to hallucinate. The most difficult variant is a mutating (muttering) delirium, in which there is a disorderly, chaotic excitation within the bed, an incoherent speech with the shouting out of individual words or syllables. Often there are senseless grasping movements, the patient is pulling his clothes and sheet. With the development of delirious syndrome, hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital or psychosomatic department is shown, in severe cases - in the intensive care unit for detoxification and relief of psychotic disorders.
