Not so long ago, I still decided to put myself Windows XP Professional SP1 Rus, despite all the rumors that they say XP is very buggy, sends your data to Microsoft, does not recognize the driver, etc.
Installation
I installed it as the second OS from Windows Me. I've heard that there are problems with installing it as a second OS after Linux, I do not know, I did not. Installing a lot of work does not take, so I will not describe it, I will only say that when downloading it offers to choose a file system, FAT32 or NTSF. I would advise to reformat the disk to NTFS, if you, like me, want to put it as the second OS. The fact is that from the security point of view, FAT32, this is not very good. And the files on the disk with Win9x, Me in XP will be available. But Win 9x, Me simply will not see the disk in NTFS format. But it's very simple to fix, with the help, special programs. When downloading, you can leave the disk without formatting in FAT32 format, then, naturally, all the files on both disks will be available. After installation, at the initial stage a menu appears in which you can select the OS that you want to run, in my case Windows XP, or Windows Me. I, of course, chose Windows XP. It is loaded longer than Me.
Appearance
The appearance of XP is very impressive. No gray boring windows, all represented in blue-white-blue tone, you can also switch the tone to gray and standard (like in Win9x). See the screenshots and check it yourself. You can switch views at: Start - Control Panel - Design and themes - change the theme of the theme - the "Themes" tab. In general, I want to say that the designers of Microsoft have worked on the glory. But there is an obvious minus in the organization of the interface. The functions that Win9x can be turned on with a couple of clicks will take much more time. Of course, it's clear that Microsoft programmers tried to make XP more convenient for beginners, but not all lamers. Separately, I would like to note the completion of the work, now when the window with the completion of the work appears, everything except this window slowly takes a monochrome gray color. Needless to say, working with such an interface is much more pleasant than with the previous one. <

I installed XP from a pirated disc on which, of course, was located and krak. It turned out to be not quite the edge, i.e. He registered the OS, but simply stopped the registration time, the system time did not stop there. In general, with kraks to products from the XP series, things are much worse than with Win9x. The anti-piracy technology applied by Microsoft is proud of the name WPA. Briefly I will tell you about its essence. And it consists in the following: in the exchange of keys between the user OS and directly Microsoft. On the user's computer, a serial key is generated from the serial number of the XP and the iron (!) Of the user's PC. In the note, I want to note that more than once I heard that during the upgrade, the officially registered version of Windows XP, refused to work! Another reason to use krak. In short, the key generated by the user's PC is sent to Microsoft, where another key is generated from it. This key is sent to the user who activates XP. This technology eliminates the use of one key on multiple computers. Now about how the pirates solved this problem. The fact is that Microsoft released a special version of XP, which was intended for corporate users on tens of thousands of computers. Naturally, it was inconvenient to generate their own number for them all, and Microsoft released a version of XP that did not require registration. Well, this OS immediately got to the pirates. Of course, with the release of SP1, another attempt was made to combat piracy, but it had already been overcome. I want to say that most of the key generators for XP simply will not work, but some are quite working, for example, The Blue List XP KeyGen.
Features of XP
The first is the size, which, unlike my younger brothers, takes me as much as 1.2 GB. With it comes the latest versions of Internet Exploer, Outlook, Windows Media Player, Windows Movie Maker, Picture Viewer. Among the innovations should be noted compatibility. In the system catalog there is a new daddy WinSxS, which stores different versions of library components. As I said, in Windows XP you can work with programs from previous versions of this system, this is provided by an application called QFixApp. Also in XP there is protection from lamers, and "overwhelm" its inexperienced users has become much more difficult than Windows 9x. From the point of view of security, the OS has become much better.
Requirements for hardware
Windows XP is not designed for a weak, slow computer. The minimum amount of RAM should be 128 MB. On my system: Intel Pentium 4 1500 Hz, 128 DDR 2100, Vidio GeForce 4 MX 64 Mb, 40 Gb HDD Seagate, CD-ROM 52x Acer, 14 inch Panasonic SM 50 monitor, Modem US Robotics Courier 3453 ("new Courier") . After installation, small brakes were noticed, but after tuning everything became literally "flying".
