When King David was old and [declining] summer, they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
And his servants said to him: Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand the king, and went after him, and lay with him --and will be warm our lord the king.
So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
Damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.

Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king. And he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
And his father had not displeased him: Why are you doing this? He was also very handsome and was born after Absalom.
And he conferred with Joab, son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
But Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Risy and strong David, were not with Adonijah.
And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and calves at the Stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brothers, the sons of the king, with all the men of Judah the king.
But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

eleven Then Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah, the son of Aggifin, has become king, and David our lord does not know [about]?
Now, here, I advise you: Escape for thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
Go and get thee in unto king David, and say to him: Do you not sworn, my lord, thy handmaid, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me and he shall sit on my throne '? Why then doth Adonijah reign?
And then, when you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
Bathsheba went to the king in the bedroom; the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite ministered to the king;
and Bathsheba stooped and bowed to the king; And the king said that to you?
She said to him: My lord! you swore to your servant by the Lord your God: 'your son Solomon will reign after me and he shall sit on my throne.'
And now, behold, Adonijah [reign], and you, my lord the king, do not know [about].
And he hath slain oxen, calves and sheep, and has invited all the king's sons and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander; But Solomon your servant he has not invited.
But you, my lord, --tsar, and the eyes of all Israel [directed] against you, that you tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him;
otherwise, my lord the king shall rest with his fathers fall that I and my son Solomon.
While she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet came and.
And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And he came to the king and bowed to the king with his face to the ground.
And Nathan said, My lord the king! hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne '?
Because he is gone down, and hath slain oxen, calves and sheep, and has invited all the king's sons and the commanders, and Abiathar the priest, and behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah!
But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
Was it not for [the will of] my lord the king, and thou hast not revealed to thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came in and stood before the king.
And the king swore and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul from all distress,
thirty As I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying that Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place, so I do this day.
And Bathsheba stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed to the king, and said, Long live my master King David for ever!

And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.
And the king said to them: Take with you the servants of your lord, and set Solomon my son on my mule, and bring him down to Gihon,
and so anoint him there Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet to be king over Israel, and they blew the trumpets and shouts: Long live King Solomon!
Then escort him back, and he would come and sit on my throne; he shall be king in my stead; I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, Amen, --da says the LORD God of my lord the king!
As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David!
So Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and put Solomon on King David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.
And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet, and all the people shouted: Long live King Solomon!
And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

And Adonijah heard, and all the guests that they once stopped eating; and Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore this noise of the city being?
He also said he came Jonathan, the son of Abiathar the priest. And Adonijah said, Come in; you - an honest man, and bringest good tidings.
And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king;
and the king sent with him Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites and they put him on the king's mule;
and anointed him, Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet king in Gihon: and from thence rejoicing, and the city was in an uproar. This is the noise that you hear.
And Solomon sitteth on the throne.
And the king's servants came to congratulate our lord King David, saying: thy God will glorify the name of Solomon greater than thy name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself on his bed,
and thus said the king: Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne, and my eyes see it! '
[Then] I was frightened and stopped all the guests that were with Adonijah, and went every man his way.
Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose and went and caught hold of the horns of the altar.
And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon, and behold, he was holding on to the horns of the altar, saying, Let me now swear by King Solomon, that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
And Solomon said: If he be a worthy man, not a single hair of him fall to the ground; if there is duplicity in him, he shall die.
And king Solomon sent, and brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to King Solomon; and Solomon said unto him, Go to your house.
