Ben-Hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and with him were thirty and two kings, with horses and chariots, and went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city,
and he said unto him, Thus says Ben-Hadad: Thy silver and thy gold - mine, and thy wives and thy children best - are mine.
And the king of Israel answered and said, Let there be according to thy word, my lord the king: I have all mine - yours.
And the messengers came again and said, Thus says Ben-hadad: I sent to tell you: `Thy silver and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy sons give me ';
so I morrow about this time I shall send to you my servants, that they visited your house and the houses of your servants, and everything dear to your eyes have taken in hand and carried away.
And the king of Israel called all the elders of the land and said, Mark, he is plotting evil; for he sent to me for my wives and my children, and my silver and my gold, I did not refuse him.
And they said unto him all the elders and all the people did not listen nor consent.
And he said to messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for the first time to your servant I will do, and can not do. And the messengers departed and brought him word.
And sent him Ben-Hadad said, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
eleven And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not boast belts as ungird.

Upon hearing this word, Ben-Hadad, who was drinking with the kings in the tents, he said unto his servants the city. And they laid siege to the city.
And behold, a prophet came up to Ahab, king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the Lord: Hast thou seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand, that you may know that I am the LORD.
And Ahab said, By whom? He said: Thus saith the Lord, through the servants of the provinces. And he said to [Ahab]: who will start the battle? He said you.
[Ahab] considered servants of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand.
And they went out at noon. Ben-Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
And they made before the servants of the provinces. And Benhadad sent out, and they told him that the people came out of Samaria.
He said if they came out for peace, take them alive, and if the war went on, take them alive.
We came from a servant of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
And they slew every one his man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben-Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.
And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and a great defeat at the Syrians.

And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
The servants of the king of Syria said to him: Their gods are gods of the mountains, therefore they were stronger than we; But if we fight them on the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than them.
And do this thing: Take away the kings, each from his place, and put governors in their place;
and number thee an army as much as you have fallen, and the horses, how many horses, and chariots, chariot; and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than them. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
One year later, Ben-Hadad gathered the Syrians and delivered to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
Were gathered together, and the children of Israel, and took the food, went to meet them. And the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats, but the Syrians filled the land.
And there came a man of God, and said to the king of Israel: Thus saith the Lord: because the Syrians have said, The LORD is a God of mountains, and not God of the valleys', I deliver all this great multitude into your hand, that you may know that I- -Lord.
And they pitched one over against the other seven days. The battle began the seventh day, and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
thirty But the rest fled to the city of Aphek; [There] a wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand people. And Ben-Hadad went into the city and go into an inner chamber.

And they said to him by his servants: we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings; let us put sackcloth upon his loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will spare your life.
So they girded sackcloth on their loins and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-Hadad says: 'let me live. He said: Is he alive? He is my brother.
Now the men took it as [good] sign and hastily catch of his mouth, and said, Thy brother Ben-Hadad. And he said, Go ye, bring him. And Ben-Hadad came out to him, and he put him [with them] in the chariot.
He said to him [Ben-Hadad] The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. [Ahab said,] after agreement I will let you go. And a covenant with him, let him go.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to another by the word of the Lord, Smite me. But the man refused to strike him.
And he said to him: because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you when you go away from me. He went from him, a lion found him, and killed him.
Then he found another man, and said, Smite me. The man beat him to the point that smiting he wounded him.
So the prophet departed and waited for the king on the road, disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
When the king passed by, he cried to the king and said, Thy servant went out to battle, and behold, a man, who quit the side, led man to me and said, `Keep this man; if it will not, then your life shall be for his life, or thou shalt pay a talent of silver. '
As your servant was busy here and in other cases, he was gone. --And He said, the king of Israel: So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.
He immediately removed the veil from his eyes, and the king recognized him that he was from the prophets.
And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord: because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man sworn me, thy life shall go for his life, your people for his people.
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
