3 Kings 3

1 Solomon intermarried with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and took for himself the daughter of Pharaoh and brought her into the city of David, until he built his house and the house of the Lord and the walls around Jerusalem.
2 The people still offered sacrifices in the high places, for the house of the name of the Lord was not built until that time.
3 And Solomon loved the Lord, walking according to the ordinance of David his father; But he also sacrificed and smoked in the high places.
4 And the king went to Gibeon, to offer there a sacrifice, for there was the chief altar there. A thousand burnt offerings were offered by Solomon on that altar.

5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night, and God said: Ask what to give to you.
6th And Solomon said: Thou hast made great mercy to thy servant David my father; And because he walked before Thee in truth and truth and with a sincere heart before Thee, thou hast kept to him this great mercy and bestowed upon him a son who would sit on his throne, as it is today;
7th And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father; But I'm a young man, I do not know either my way out or the entrance;
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a people so numerous that, according to its multitude, it is not possible to number it, nor to survey it;
9 Grant to your servant an intelligent heart to judge your people and to distinguish between good and evil; For who can rule this numerous people of yours?
10 And it pleased the Lord that Solomon asked this.
eleven And God said to him: Because you asked for this and did not ask yourself for a long life, did not ask for riches, did not ask for the souls of your enemies, but asked for reason to know how to judge,
12 Behold, I will do according to your word, Behold, I give you a wise and wise heart, so that there was none like you before you, and after you, there will not arise like you;
13 And what you did not ask, I give to you, and riches and glory, so that there will be none like unto you among kings all your days;
14 And if you walk in my way, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, I will continue your days.
15 And Solomon awoke, and, behold, it was a dream. And he went to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and made peace offerings, and made a great feast for all his servants.

16 Then the two women of the harlot came to the king, and stood before him.
17th And one woman said: Oh, my lord! I and this woman live in the same house; And I have born with her in this house;
18 On the third day after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth; And we were together, and there was no stranger with us in the house; Only we were two in the house;
19 And the son of this woman died at night, for she slept him;
20 And she arose at night, and took my son from me, when I, your slave, slept, and laid him to my breast, and laid her dead son to my breast;
21 In the morning I arose to feed my son, and, behold, he was dead; And when I peered at him in the morning, it was not my son, whom I gave birth to.
22 And another woman said: no, my son is alive, and your son is dead. And she said to her: no, your son is dead, but my living. And they spoke thus before the king.
23 And the king said, This one says: My son is living, and your son is dead; And she says: No, your son is dead, but my son is alive.
24 And the king said, Give me the sword. And they brought the sword to the king.
25 And the king said, Cut the living child in two, and give half of one and half of the other.
26th And the woman who was alive to the king answered the king, for her whole being was moved with pity for her son: oh, my lord! Give her this living child and do not kill him. And the other said: let it not be neither me nor you, chop.
27th And the king answered and said: Give this living child, and do not kill him: she is his mother.
28 And all Israel heard of judgment, as the king reasoned; And they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute judgment.
