The Philistines gathered their troops for war and gathered in Succoth, which is in Judea, and pitched between Succoth and Azek in Ephesus-Dammim.
And Saul and the Israelites gathered and pitched in the valley of the oak and prepared for war against the Philistines.
And the Philistines became on the mountain on one side, and the Israelites on the mountain on the other side, and between them there was a valley.
And the one-armed man, named Goliath of Gath, came forth from the camp of the Philistines; He is six cubits tall and span.
The brass helmet on his head; And he was clothed in scaly armor, and the weight of his armor was five thousand shekels of copper;
th The copper kneecaps on his feet, and the copper shield behind his shoulders;
th And the shaft of his spear is like a weaver's weaver; And the very spear thereof in six hundred shekels of iron, and before him came the squire.
And he stood and cried to the regiments of Israel, saying to them, "Why did you go out to fight?" Are you Philistine, and you are Saul's servants? Choose a person, and let him come down to me;
If he can fight with me and kill me, then we will be your slaves; If I overcome him and kill him, then you will be our slaves and you will serve us.
And the Philistine said: Today I will disgrace the regiments of Israel; Give me a man, and we will fight together.
eleven And when Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were very frightened and terrified.

And David was the son of Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, by the name of Jesse, who had eight sons. This man in the days of Saul reached old age and was the oldest among men.
The three elder sons of Jesse went with Saul to the war; The names of his three sons who went to war: the elder - Eliab, the second after him - Aminadav, and the third - Samma;
David was the lesser. The three elders went with Saul,
And David returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep in Bethlehem.
And the Philistine spoke that morning and evening and exhibited himself forty days.
th And Jesse said unto David his son, Take for your brethren an ephah of dried corn and ten loaves of bread, and carry them quickly to the camp toward your brethren;
And take these ten cheeses to the commander of the millennium and visit the health of the brothers and find out about their needs.
Saul and they and all the Israelites [were] in the valley of the oak and were preparing for battle with the Philistines.
And David arose early in the morning, and charged the sheep to the watchman, and taking the burden, went, as Jesse had commanded him, and came to the cart when the army was withdrawn and with a cry prepared for battle.
And the Israelites and the Philistines arranged the formation against the order.
David left his burden to the watchman and ran to the ranks, and, having come, asked his brothers about health.
And so, when he talked to them, a monotheist named Goliath, a Philistine from Gath, comes out of the ranks of the Philistines and speaks those words, and David heard them.
And all Israel, when they saw this man, fled from him and were very afraid.
And the Israelites said: "Do you see this man speaking?" He acts to vilify Israel. If anyone had killed him, the king would have given him great riches, and would have given his daughter for him, and his father's house would have made him free in Israel.
th And David said to the men who stood with him, What shall they do to him that kills this Philistine and removes reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that thus defied the host of the living God?
th And the people said to him the same words, saying: This is what will be done to the man who will kill him.
And Eliab the elder brother of David heard that he spoke with men, and Eliab was angry with David, and said: Why did you come here and to whom did you leave a few sheep in the desert? I know your arrogance and your bad heart, you came to look at the battle.
And David said, What have I done? Is not this a word?
thirty And he turned from him to another and spoke the same words, and the people answered him as before.

And they heard the words that David had spoken, and told Saul, and he called him.
And David said to Saul, Let no man fall by his head because of him; Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33. And Saul said to David, "You can not go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are still a young man, and he is a warrior from his youth."
And David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or bear came and carried a sheep out of the herd,
Then I chased after him and attacked him and took him from his mouth; And if he threw himself at me, then I took him by the shackles and struck him and killed him;
And the lion and the bear slew your servant, and with this uncircumcised Philistine will be the same as with them, because so he defied the host of the living God.
And David said: The Lord, who delivered me from the lion and the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, "Go, and the Lord be with you."
And Saul put David on his clothes, and put a brass helmet on his head, and put on him armor.
And David girded his sword above his garments, and began to walk, for he was not accustomed [to such weapons]; Then David said to Saul: I can not walk in this, I am not used to it. And David took all this from himself.

And he took his staff into his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag that was with him; And with a bag and with a sling in his hand came out against the Philistine.
The Philistine also stepped forward, walking and approaching David, and the squire marched ahead of him.
And the Philistine looked and, seeing David, looked at him contemptuously, for he was young, fair-haired and handsome.
And the Philistine said to David, "What are you going to do with me with the staff?" Am I a dog? And the Philistine cursed David with his gods.
And the Philistine said to David, Come near to me, and I will give your body to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field.
And David answered the Philistine: Thou goest against me with a sword and a spear and shield; but I go against you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, which thou hast reproached;
Now the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will kill you, and I will take your head off you, and I will give the bodies of the army of the Philistines to the birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth, and the whole earth will know that there is a God in Israel;
And the whole congregation will know that it is not with the sword and the spear that the Lord saves, for this is the war of the Lord, and He will give you into our hands.

When the Philistine rose and approached and approached David, David hastily ran to the ranks towards the Philistine.
And David put his hand into his bag, and took a stone from there, and threw it out of his sling and smote the Philistine on the forehead, so that the stone pierced his forehead, and he fell face to face with the earth.
So David overcame the Philistine sling and stone, and struck down the Philistine and killed him; The sword was not in David's hands.
Then David ran and, stepping on the Philistine, took his sword and took it out of its sheath, hit it and cut off their head; The Philistines, when they saw that their strong man was dead, fled.
And the men of Israel and Judah rose up, and cried out and drove the Philistines to the entrance to the valley and to the gate of Akkaron. And the defeated Philistines fell down the road of Shaarim to Gath and to Akkaron.
And the children of Israel returned from pursuing the Philistines, and plundered their camp.
And David took the head of the Philistine, and carried her to Jerusalem, and put his weapons in his tent.
When Saul saw David coming out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army: Abner, whose son is this young man? Abner said, "Let your soul live, O king; I do not know.
And the king said: So ask, whose son is this young man?
When David returned after the defeat of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him to Saul, and the head of the Philistine was in his hand.
And Saul asked him, Whose son are you, young man? And David answered, The son of thy servant Jesse of Bethlehem.
