The Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Aven-Ezer to Azot.
And the Philistines took up the ark of God, and brought it into the temple of Dagon, and placed it beside Dagon.
And the Ashdod rose up early the next day, and, behold, Dagon lay with his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon and again put him in their place.
And they arose early in the morning the next day, and, behold, Dagon is prostrate on the earth before the ark of the Lord; Dagonov's head and both his hands [were] cut off, each in the doorway, only Dagon's body remained.
Therefore the priests of the Dagon and all who come to the temple of Dagon in Azot do not enter the threshold of the Dagon until this day.

th And the hand of the Lord was aggravated over the Ashdods, and He smote them and punished them with agonizing outgrowths, in Azot and in its environs.
th And the Ashdodites saw it, and said: Let not the ark of the God of Israel be left with us, for his arm is heavy for us and for Dagon our God.
And they sent, and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said, Let the ark of the God of Israel go to Gath. And they sent the ark of the God of Israel to Gath.
After they had sent him, the hand of the Lord in the city was a great terror, and the Lord struck the inhabitants of the city from small to large, and the build-ups appeared on them.
And they sent the ark of God to Ascalon; And when the ark of God came to Ashkelon, the Askalonians cried, saying, "They brought to us the ark of the God of Israel, to kill us and our people."
eleven And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send the ark of the God of Israel; Let him return to his place, so that he does not kill us and our people. For the terrible terror was in the whole city; The hand of God is heavy upon them.
And those who did not die were struck by outgrowths, so that the cry of the city ascended to heaven.
